Just a brief follow-up to last week’s post (Autism Awareness Has a Long, Long Way to Go).

As I implored at the end:

So please, be truly aware. Spread the word. And help us create a fuller Autism Awareness.

A good friend (and brilliant photographer of autism life, whose book Immersed I reviewed, which is how we connected — click here for that review), Bruce Hall, shared the piece on his Facebook page.

I value, more than you know, every comment, public and private, that I receive from simpatico parents and loved ones of people with severe autism.

But a comment on Bruce’s page comes from another perspective. It gets to exactly why I wrote the piece in the first place. And I want to thank Jan Warford Fisher for permission to share his comment:

I do not have an autistic child and don’t know much about autism. But, of all that I have read, this article taught me more and gave me more insight than anything else. It left me shaken but with a new understanding that I value. Do you mind if I share it?

To the contrary Jan. Thank you for sharing it, and helping us spread the word.
