Jake came along for this Ben weekend and it made for a beautiful Father’s Day.

Me, Jake — and Ben doing his avant-garde posing.

On Saturday, I posted this pic to Facebook, with the caption, “Ben has eclectic taste in men’s wear, including woman’s wear when he dons a blouse of Karen’s after rummaging through our suitcase. Today, he is a fan of the Mongolian Nomadic Folk Metal band, Tengger Cavalry. Or at least his brother Jake is a fan of this particular Mongolian Nomadic Folk Metal band, and we have assured Jake that he WILL get the shirt back.” Sunday morning, the pic had been “shared” — by Tengger Cavalry. The pic, now on their own Facebook page, is captioned: “Lol nice shirt. Get it back! Or get a new one at our concert!”

If I ever suggest taking the stairs instead of going down in an elevator, Ben is happy to oblige. The stairwell in our Cleveland apartment building has Venetian blinds, an added perk for Ben.

When we showed up Saturday morning, Ben was attending to five (!!!) screens — three on his desk, and two on his dresser (seen behind him). And he was also playing a “bead” game. Oh, to be in his brain for just a moment.

Corky-Lenny-Lebron2011
…and speaking of Cleveland — we’ve happily been soaking up the Cavaliers hysteria. Ah, I remember back when we had just started our sojourns, five years ago, when the city felt a bit differently about Lebron. He had bolted for Miami the year before to win, ultimately, a couple championships. His first Miami season, however, saw them fall to the Mavs, giving Cleveland a chance to gloat before having to watch him fulfill his dream.  I snapped this sign outside of the classic Corky and Lenny’s deli five years ago, after that defeat. What a difference five years makes. We pulled out of town this past Sunday a few hours before the Game 7 tip-off, getting back to Illinois in time to see the all-time best NBA Championship upset, Golden State falling to the Cavs after being up three-games-to-one, the first time that’s ever happened in the NBA finals. Lebron James is absolutely, positively, and once again, Cleveland’s King. Honestly I’m a bit shocked at the size of my endorphin rush from the Cleveland victory. Besides the whole backstory, and drama leading up to the final minute, maybe it’s Cleveland becoming our second home and seeing — feeling — firsthand, the hated Lebron return to become the superhero, while also remembering the torment the Bulls dropped on the Cavs in the ’80s and 90’s. The “mistake by the lake” can tell everyone else to bite it today. Tasty!
